Birthday party themes for every age
A theme is just a reason for the invite, the food and the decorations to match. Pick one idea and repeat it three times.
For kids
- Picnic in the park: blankets, sandwiches cut into shapes, bubbles and a ball.
- Art studio: aprons, big paper on the table, washable paint, and the art goes home as the favor.
- Camp-out: a tent in the living room, flashlights, s’mores (or a s’mores dip in the oven).
For grown-ups
- Dinner at home with a dress code: “something gold” or “all black” makes photos better with no extra work.
- A year they were born party: music, snacks and a trivia round from that year.
- Tasting night: everyone brings one bottle or one cheese, and you put out cards to rate them.
Make it feel finished
- Use the theme in three places: the invite design, one dish or drink, and one thing on the table.
- Plan one moment (the cake, a toast, a photo) and tell people roughly when it’ll happen.
